Novice Spaniel Test at  Bicton Mill

What a lovely fine day for our Novice Spaniel Test at  Bicton Mill, St Ive by kind permission of the Appledore Shoot and Mr Mike Williams and kindly sponsored by Skinners Dogfood.

This was the first test we have held for 3 years and we had a good turnout of 15 dogs.  We all had a wonderful day and the competitors enjoyed themselves. 

The judges were Mrs Margaret Cox and Mrs Alice Wise, who had no trouble in giving some high marks in places and some good advice in others!  We had the usual hunt up with steadiness to shot and fall, together with a retrieve.  The second test was a blind retrieve and the third test was a tricky left and right.  Unfortunately we had had rain previously so the river was not fit for novice dogs to use.   

I would like to thank the Appledore Shoot for donating the ground, Skinners for supporting us, the judges and competitors for being sporting and last but not least my brilliant helpers for all their help and who donated their day, particularly the previous WT Sec Dave Kent, our Chairman Trevor Gussey and all the dummy throwers and helpers.  Thank you all for making it a successful day, and to John Hart - have another glass of red John!!
